The Truman Show is a movieabout a man who is held captiveinside a world that revolves nigh him. Truman Burbank,the main character has beenraised on a huge TVSoundstage filled with hiddencameras and actors whopretend to be his friends andfamily. This world is onewhere he is literally trapped inhis own life by the surrealexistence in which he hasbeen forced to spend every twenty-four hour period of his thirty years. Sincethe day he was born TrumanBurbanks life was controlledfrom a huge control panel in thesky controlled by a manipulationof how life should be, in a perfectworld. At the hands of suchmanipulators we see how therole of media in our worldpersuades us into living in a waythat we would otherwise notintend to.It is quite often oblivious to all ofus, the effect that media has onus. However, where ever we lookthe effects of media have alteredthe coarse of living. The clotheswe wear, the sports we play, the unison we listen to and ourpolitical opinions, are all aspectsthat are i nfluenced by the media.Advertising is the chief culprit inmany cases. We often see others respondingto the effects of media whether itis consciously or subconsciously.As victims of commercialism, wethen respond to those who havebeen effected by media. Anexample of this is the clothesthat we wear.
